RAG on NPR

My final appearance on News & Notes as NPR brings the show to a close. Thanks to Ed Gordon, Farai Chideya and, most recently, Tony Cox for several years of fun and informative political discussions (if I say so myself)!

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

RAG on NPR

Farai Chideya, Mary Frances Berry and I talked politics on Wednesday. Before our three-way conversation, Farai interviewed Mary one-on-one on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Thurgood Marshall. You might want to check that out, if only to add some context to my comments at the very end of the politics segment.

Marshall was a remarkable figure and one of the great ironies -- which I only inferred because of time and not wishing to sound flip or disrespectful -- is that he may be the only Supreme Court Justice whose high court service was the least interesting or significant part of his life and career.

RAG on NPR

Geez, twice in less than a week!

Wednesday, I was back on News & Notes. Despite the description of the show on the NPR site, Donna Brazile, Farai Chideya and I never got around to talking about the Louisiana governor's race (odd, considering Donna is from there). Instead, we talked about Barack Obama and the black vote (in the context of the South Carolina primary) -- and the California wildfires.

Have a fun listen.

I made my second appearance on Michel Martin's "Tell Me More" on Friday. The Democrats' problems running Congress was the main topic.

Tentative plans to appear on "News And Notes" later this week as well.

On Monday's "News & Notes," we discussed the missing White House e-mails and the increasing technology /celebrity/activism nexus increasingly surrounding the Darfur genocide issue.

Oh yeah, and the Confederate flag too.

RAG on NPR

Driving home late last night (sounds like the beginning of a Country-Western tune), I discovered that the FM NPR station does carry News and Notes ... not that you can't enjoy it from I-Tunes or the NPR site.

Luckily RAG wasn't paired with Elmer Fudd, er, Michael Meyers, but two very intelligent black female journalists, Callie Crossley and Rochelle Riley. Naturally, the combination of two such ladies and our dapper punster made for a lively discussion on Don Imus, among other hair-raising topics.

Enjoy here.

RAG on NPR

Today's discussion centered on the candidates' fundraising results. Check out your humble host's explanation on why Barack Obama is holding back. Consider what the reaction in Clinton land will be if Obama ends up raising more than the former First Lady's $26 million? That possibility/fear/likelihood could explain why the Big Dog has been unleashed at such an early time.

Also discussed: Jesse Jackson's endorsement of Obama.

RAG on NPR

A two-fer this week: On Monday, Callie Crossley, Marcelo Suarez Orozco and I reviewed the Iraq funding/withdrawal vote and a free-speech issue involving interminable '60s poet Amiri Baraka.

On Tuesday, New York civil libertarian Michael Meyers, Chicago Sun-Times columnist and I discussed a possible Michael Bloomberg presidential run and the NYPD surveillance of 2004 Republican National Committee protesters. Meyers and I mix it up in particular.

Okay, if I say so myself, I was on fire today: the NAACP, Hillary, Obama...strong opinions and some good one-liners too! Glenn Loury and Callie Crossley were quite on point as well!

It's a rare Friday appearance pour moi on "News and Notes". The Hillary/Barack spat and Deval Patrick kerfuffle are the big topics. I'm on with former Civil Rights Commission Chair Mary Frances Berry and Washington Post editor Joe Davidson.

Oh, and I'll be back Monday for my regular N&N slot.
