Bringing my varied talents together: I'll be part of a bipartisan group taking a humorous look at the political year. I will be doing a few minutes of stand-up, having a roundtable discussion -- and then participating in some improv with folks I've never performed with before! Ah, it's like being on the high-wire without a net! The PIT (People's Improv Theatre) is at 154 W. 29TH Street (between 6th & 7th). Some more details here.
Drop by either or both as the mood and the muse strikes you!

Showing My True Grit
So, I ventured into the belly of the lefty beast earlier this week to tape an episode of Grit TV, hosted by Laura Flanders, taped in the Air America offices (my second trip to the building in 10 days). It's another "media analysis" program -- though solely on the Web. As one might expect, it's point of view is left-of-center, so I was paired with a Huffington Post editor and a liberal economics writer. See the results here:

RAG @ The Black Comedy Experiment
If you happen to be in New York tonight (February 28) through Saturday (March 1), you might want to check out The Black Comedy Experiment festival. It's a group of talented, predominantly African-American performers doing 15 shows of alternative comedy. By alternative, I mean, you won't think you stumbled into an outtake of HBO's Def Comedy Jam.
(Know what I'm sayin', m****f***s?)
All shows are at The Tank, 279 Church Street in Tribeca.
I will be providing my alternative take on the Laughing Liberally show Saturday night at 8:30. Tickets, for individual shows and the whole festival, can be purchased here or through SmartTix at 212-868-4444.
Drop by if you can!

Robert George's Comedy Tour -- Unabridged
Over the next week, I'm doing a few stand-up dates for the New York City Underground Comedy Festival (My dates refused to lie down, so I had to do stand-up). So, if you're in the area and have some time, drop by.
SUNDAY, Sept. 30th, 9:30 PM: "Harlem Renaissance" Show, Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd St., New York, NY, 212-367-9000; think of it as the "Anti-Def Jam Comedy" show -- black-themed comedy with a minimum of "MFs"!
WEDNESDAY, Oct. 3rd, 9:30 PM: "Funniest Reporter in New York", Gotham Comedy Club (same contact info as above) -- a fun cross-section of various journalist types showing off their INTENTIONALLY funny sides!
THURSDAY, Oct. 4th, 7:30 PM: "Official JAMNOW.com Stage!!!", HA! Comedy Club, 163 46th Street @ 7th Avenue, 212-977-3884.
SATURDAY, Oct. 6th, 8:00 PM: "The Despot Show", Sage Theatre, 711 Seventh Avenue (between 47th & 48th), 2nd Floor, 212-302-6665. In the increasing likelihood that despots like Kim Jong Il and Mahmoud Ahmajinedad don't appear, expect an evening of political-themed humor.
Come by one -- or come by all! Just come on by!
UPDATE: Sunday's show has been cancelled. Producers are hoping to reschedule sometime this week.

Open Thread (Buffalo Stance Edition)
No, I'm not talking about Neneh Cherry.
I'm in D.C. this afternoon at the National Press Club on a Brookings Institution-hosted panel discussing the latest Census Bureau-released poverty figures.
Mayor Bloomberg will be speaking about New York's anti-poverty initiatives.
Anyway, chat amongst yourselves. Goodness knows, there's much to talk about these days.
