Upcoming RAG Appearances
Sunday, Valentine's Day: I'll be a panelist on The End Of The Week As We Know It -- Scott Blakeman's funny and informative live comedy/public affairs show at The Tank, 354 West 45th St. At only $10, it's an inexpensive way to spend Valentine's Day (No, we can't guarantee that you'll get laid at the end of the evening. On the other hand, considering you won't have to dish out several hundreds of dollars on dinner, wine, flowers, etc. -- and still not get laid -- you won't feel like you're getting screwed either. So it works out. More details and ticket-ordering stuff here.
Monday, President's Day: I'll be performing with talented folks such as Jim Mendrinos, Ellen Karis, Brian McKim and others at the Gotham Comedy Club, 288 W. 23rd Street. The event is called "GOP Laughs" and celebrates the launch of the online site of the same name. Yep, we're not conceding the comedic landscape to Jon Stewart, Saturday Night Live, etc. Those of us on the right side of the aisle can be funny too -- and we're out to deliver our supply-side no-holds barred humor!! (Don't think we can tickle your funny bone? Then why is it called the "Laffer Curve"? Hey now!!!) Purchase tickets right here!
And looking ahead:
Friday, February 19: If you're down in DC for the always interesting CPAC, you should check out the even more fun parallel XPAC extravaganza. In particular, check out the late-night XPAC Comedy Show! A few of the same folks bringing you GOP Laughs will be on stage -- plus a few others. Cutting- edge conservative comedy at its finest!!! Exact location to be determined, but check the XPAC site during the week for more info.
Okay, hope to see some or many of you over the next week!!

Thursday Shorts
1) Hmm...looks like May's fundraising dip for Barack Obama wasn't anything to worry about. Bounces back to $52 million haul in June (sorry, Hillary, don't expect much love from Obama's people on the debt-retirement thing).
2) The Bush administration and the Iranian regime start up an "on-the-DL" interaction -- with the possibility of a more meaningful relationship development (isn't that always the case though?).
3) Kudos to CNN's Roland Martin for commending McCain -- and knocking Obama -- on school vouchers. There is absolutely no logical reason why Obama can't stray from the NEA/AFT line on vouchers. Oh well, if the guy becomes president, here's hoping that this will be one of the first policies that he throws under the (school) bus. Whitney Tilson who is a pro-education reform Democrat -- and a big Obama supporter -- thinks that Obama can deliver the message that the teachers unions need to do. He occasionally does it at a rhetorical level, but I haven't seen anything yet resembling a real dynamic policy shift.
4) A Reagan-era conservative bails to Obama.
5) Two cable favorites from last year did well with Emmy nominations today -- "Mad Men" and "Damages." Glenn Close's performance in the latter was spine-tingling, and the flashbacks and flashforwards would have had even the biggest "Memento" fan's head spinning. Alas, my other summer guilty pleasure, "Burn Notice" wasn't recognized in any major category.
6) Finally, I've been drawn back to "Last Comic Standing" -- and actually know a few of the people who have appeared this season. Of the finalists, I know Adam Hunter the best. Adam can turn some folks off with aggressiveness that borders on arrogance, but his act never fails to make me laugh. Episodes available for online viewing.

Arab-Americans Blowin' Up!
Good documentary on Arab-American comics finding their voices in a post 9/11 world premieres tonight (Sunday) on PBS as part of the America At The Crossroads series. Check local listings, as the saying goes.
I've been fortunate to share the stage with both Dean Obeidallah and Maysoon Zayid. I may not agree with all their politics, but they are very funny. That's Dean in my "Laughing With The Enemy" You Tube clip.
Check out the documentary if you get the chance.

Most Invisible Reporter?
Seriously. Judge Emily Gould from Gawker described her experience:
First up was Star Editor At Large Julia Allison...
Sean McCarthy, who writes features for the Daily News, appeared onstage and handily won the competition by having his act really down...
He was followed by an hour or so of largeish women with "producer" in their titles making jokes about their weight and isn't dating weird...
Uh, OK. I'm 5'10", 165 lbs, so I'm not exactly "largeish." Sean and I were the only male journalists in the show. So, somehow, I got lost in the midst of an "hour or so of largeish women." It's fine if Emily thought everyone else was forgettable, but in terms of accuracy, it would be nice if she got people's gender correct. I swear to God, I did not do my "Big Mamma's House" impression!
I can only guess that Emily must have somehow fainted during my set. Geez, I'm glad she recovered in time to write her review.
